My friend Tracy, tagged me on a little blog question diddy.

I met Tracy when her husband, Stephen, and Roger were in med school together and think she is one of the sweetest people I've ever met. Here we are at the circus during med school. Tracy is the pregnant one in gray.

She is married to Stephen. When I was looking through pictures to find one of Tracy I came across these from the same night at the circus. I'm kind of bummed that Stephen finished med school and residency because I'm pretty sure he would have made a great clown.

I got tagged to answer the following 11 questions and then tag other people with blogs to do the same

So here we go...

1. What is your favorite way to spend a Saturday.

Sip on a cup of coffee, and stay in pajamas as long as possible.

2. Which food do you wish could be calorie-free for all time?

3. What is your favorite Christmas gift from childhood?

A kitchen with lots of plastic food...although if i had the plastic food that they make these days i'd be in heaven...that stuff looks so real.

4. If you could be a parent of as many children as you wanted, how many would you have?

Whoa Whoa Whoa Tracy! We've just made it through 1 year with our first. We are surviving but don't know that we can put a number on it for how many in the future.

5. Who is your favorite Disney princess?

Belle...hands down favorite.

6. What's one of your favorite stories in the Bible and why?

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. I think its an awesome story...I mean really...standing in a fire, and don't get burned...love it. Plus, its the one I remember my Daddy reading to me the most growing up...and its fun to say.

7. What is one item you feel you couldn't live without.

Like Tracy said I know Bible is the answer I'm suppose to give here...and thats true but...

I also need toilet paper, and a DVR (I'm not sure how we ever watched tv when we had to watch commercials), Oh and a Hair Straightener (oh what would high school have been like if I had had such a good straightener)...thats more than 1...so, I could figure out a substitute for toilet paper and deal with the commercials...I'm going with the 1 item is a good hair straightener.

8. What did you want to be when you grew up and do you think you will ever be that.

When I was little I said I was going to be a "daddy so i could lay on the couch"...haha and no I don't think I'll ever be one of those.

9. What is the worst/most embarrassing CD/Albums you've ever owned and do you still have it?

This one is too hard, I'm not sure. I'm sure any I had would not have been considered cool for a long time. I was behind on the cool music since my mom's rule was when you drive you get to pick the radio station we listen to. Thus I know all oldies and shag songs and felt like a nerd in school because I didn't know the words to New Kids On The Block.

10. What would you call yourself if you could choose your own name?

This one I think my parent did well on. I like Renn a lot!

11. What is your favorite item of clothing and why?

Oh i love my fleece pants...soooo comfy...(although I think they are Roger's least favorite item of clothing that I own.)

No Cavities Club

It been a couple weeks full of Dr. appointments at our house

1st Baker had been running a fever for almost a week and not getting much better, so we headed to the Dr. just to get checked out. I was sure it was going to be a cold and just wait it out. Glad we didn't go with my gut and headed to the dr. Turns out Baker had an ear infection from that cold and with in 24 hours of meds he was a new kid. YAY

Then we headed to the eye dr. for his first eye check up. Everything looked good there. Baker was not a huge fan of having to wait 20 mins for his eyes to dilate to see the dr. But we made it and he got a good report, though the dr. did say he did not think Baker would grow up to be an eye dr.

Then today we headed to the dentist for the first check up. This one I was not as worried about because the kid LOVES to brush his teeth. He may not be an eye dr., but I think we have a good chance of having a dentist in the family. I didn't get any pictures of him because he sat in my lap for the appt, but he did great. The dr. said his teeth look good, he has 10 with 2 more about to pop through. 4 bottom, 4 top, 2 bottom molars and the 2 top molars about to pop through. He got his name on the No Cavity Club wall and got a prize out the bucket. haha.

So He's been check out all kinds of ways the last 2 weeks and everything is looking good.

Sign Language

When I was home over Christmas I had lunch with my friend Mandy and her little girl Jane, who is 2 months younger than Baker. One thing we mentioned over lunch was that we do sign language with Jane and Baker but the just stare at us or laugh, they definitely do not do the sign language.

BUT apparently Baker has been paying attention.

This past Sunday the temperatures were in the mid 50s. Any time we have a day like that we think it may be the last one for a long time out here and we need to jump on it. We goes days at a time here where we can't go outside so its always nice to get some fresh air and get Baker out too. We drove down to Fort Collins, Co to Poudre Canyon since the wind here in Cheyenne makes it harder to enjoy the weather.

We hiked around for several hours. Everyone had a really good time.

And speaking of frozen lakes. I took this in Cheyenne one day last week. People here aren't phased by this, but we don't see geese walking around on top of frozen lakes back home.

More impressive I suppose is that we've seen trucks parked on the lakes where men have driven out to ice fish. I'll try to get a picture of that next time we see it.

Baker went to the doctor today for his 1 year check up.

Stats:

Weight: 24.1 lb (75%)

Height: 31.6 in (95%)

and got 4 shots

At 1:

He CAN DO the following things when asked to: Clap your hands, Wave, Blow a kiss, Give me a kiss, Show me your ears, Patty Cake, Sit down

He has started drinking from a sippy cup instead of a bottle

EATS oatmeal with apple sauce and a fruit for breakfast and whatever we are having for the rest of his meals. Has been introduced to peanut butter and LOVES IT!

PLAYS independently for long periods of time

LOVES banging things together, books, crawling through his tunnel, yo gabba gabba on TV, and when his daddy gets home from work.

SAYS dada, duck, touch, (we may have heard a mama, but i'm not 100% sure)

We have him on video walking from Roger to me from about a month ago, but he won't do it anymore and would much rather crawl fast.

11 Months

Baker turned 11 months old last Wednesday, December 7th

Weight: 24.8 lbs (unofficial bathroom scale)

Eating: Baby oatmeal with apple sauce added for breakfast and finger foods for everything else. He has a bottle with every meal and for "snack" to get all the calories he's suppose to be having and I'm not sure how dropping the bottle will work at the end of this month. He will drink water out of a sippy cup but when it has formula in it he just spits it out.

Fun Things: Does SOME things when you ask him to, like when you say "can you wave" or "give mommy a kiss" he will do it a lot of the time. HOWEVER. When you say "don't touch the TV" he turns around smiles and touches the TV.

He stands for really long periods of time without touch anything. Squats down and stands back up without touching anything.

Says dadada, dut, bababa, and a lot of jibber jabber, roger swears he says duck in the bathtub but i haven't heard it yet,... does not even kind of say mama.

LOVES a book. No matter what he is doing if you say "do you want to read a book" he stops doing that (even if its touching the TV) and crawls over to where you are for you to read. If you say "go get daddy a book" he will go over to the book shelf and pull EVERY book off of the shelf, then pick one for you.

Oh and my favorite fun thing from this month: He has started sleeping until 7:15 instead of 6:15.

The biggest thing I've noticed this month is how much independent play he will do. He will sit for long periods of time and play with a toy or "read" a book to himself or play with with magnet letters on the fridge. He is very content to just sit alone and play.

Since this blog is where I keep a record of things I know I need to blog this story. But I'm not sure I'm ready to be "that mom" to the blog world yet. But here we go.

Last Friday I put Baker in his high chair and walked to the counter to get a fork to cut up his food. I turned around to look at him and he had stood up in his high chair and I could see that the tray was not locked into place. He was very proud of himself too. I said sit down and started toward him. Before I could get there he dove out of his high chair head first. I have no idea how he did not land directly on his head or how he didn't get hurt. After a few tears from being scared, he calmed down and is completely fine. I, on the other hand, and not sure I'm ever going to be ok.

Roger was about an hour and half away taking his Medical Board Exam and I did not want him to know and be worried, and not be able to concentrate on his exam. The afternoon went slow waiting for him to be home. When he got home Baker was laughing, clapping, crawling all around and acting just like his normal self.

I had Bible Study that night and needed it! It was good to just have Bible Study but also good to hear everyone else's scary mommy/daddy story, and they all had one.

Now, I'm just thankful we all it made it through this adventure, and I'm sure there will be a ton more scary moments ahead of us.

HOME in October

I turned 30 this year and when Roger asked what I wanted for my birthday I knew immediately. I wanted to go home. Roger couldn't be off work but Baker and I caught a flight home a few weeks after my birthday.

We went to the fall festival for halloween at my home church of Saturday.

The only trick or treating was to my friend Allison's house. She put on Facebook that because of the rain that she was disappointed to not have trick or treaters. After reading that Monday night we put back on our outfit and headed down the road to give her a trick or treater.

Mike and Meredith drove up from Concord to visit on Sunday. Mike and Roger were roommates after college then we lived across the street from Mike and Meredith in Greenville, then again in Kannapolis, needless to say we miss them.

I also got to see some other friends, and a lot of family and had fun just hanging out but don't have many pictures.

10 Months

Computer is back...Pictures didn't make it.

I've never been more thankful for this blog and Facebook and pictures from our phones. Because of those things we have pictures of the last couple of months. I had done really good about putting all the pictures I've taken of Baker on snapfish up until we moved. But, since the move I've just had them stored on the computer...lesson learned!

So here is the update as of 10 months. Its amazing how things have already changed so much from 2 weeks ago when he turned 10 months...but this update will be as of 2 weeks ago

So I re shot the 10 month pictures (10 month 1/2 months).

Stats:

We have been to the Dr a few times this month

Weight still right around 23lbs and height around 30in

Schedule
Wake up sometime between 6:00 and 7:00.

Eat breakfast between 7 and 7:30 : Oatmeal with apple sauce and a 4oz bottle

Have another 4oz bottle for a snack around 9 or 9:30

Nap for about 2 hours falling asleep between 9 and 10

Lunch around 12 : finger foods and a 4oz bottle.

Have another 4oz bottle for a snack around 2

An hour or hour and a half nap sometime between 2 and 3

Snack around 3:30 or 4 : yogurt

Dinner between 5:30 and 6:30 - finger foods of what we are having and a 4oz bottle

Bath around 7:30

Bottle and Bed around 8

Other things this month:

Eating: We are enjoying feeding him what is on our plate and we are getting more adventurous with going out to eat.

Moving - crawling around, walking around the edge of everything

Teeth: 8 teeth. 4 top and 4 bottom. For a while I didn't think that last bottom one was going to come in and Baker looked funny with his off center smile

Words: the same: dadada, bababa, and just babbling loud all the time. Still no mama.

Fun: clapping at himself and anytime you say YAYYY, also clapped when 'if your happy and you know it' came on a toy...this was exciting because we do that all the time, but had no idea he knew what was going on.

Favorites:
If he gets to watch TV the favorite is still Yo Gabba Gabba.
Books of any kind. He will stop anything that's going on if you ask if he wants to read a book.
Frank Sinatra...Susan discovered this when her and Darcen were visiting

Sickness:
Baker had a bad cold, then a fever then his first ear infection.

I haven't gotten my computer back with the pictures I need to do a few update blogs (Baker 10mo and my trip home.) But I can update on this weekend.

Darcen and Susan came down from Canada to spend the long weekend with us. We haven't seen them since October when we visited them in Calgary and they hadn't met Baker yet, other than by Skype.

Thursday: They flew to Denver where Roger picked them up. We tried a pizza place in town for dinner and hung out and got caught up

Friday: We went to the Egg and I for breakfast, got some eggnog lattes from Starbucks, drove around town and the Air Force Base, played a dance game on the XBox Kinect, cooked dinner and hung out

Saturday: We tried a new recipe for breakfast that was a huge success. I had pinned this Cinnamon Roll Cake from this blog that I enjoy reading. I was really good and I think we will make it again soon. Then Susan and I went shopping and the boys stayed home while Baker napped and played video games. For lunch that day we went to the Terry Bison Ranch and had a Bison burger. They just happened to be having a gun show at the Terry Bison Ranch, so Darcen decided to enter :-D. Then we came back and watched a movie and cooked dinner and just enjoyed hanging out.

Sunday: We got up and started back toward Denver. We stopped at Cracker Barrel for breakfast and then dropped Darcen and Susan off at the Airport. The weekend went by so fast but we are so glad they decided to come down. We are ready to plan the next trip already.

Today should be the day I'm blogging Baker's 10 month post with cute pictures, and I should be blogging my trip to Knightdale..but last night my computer(the one with the pictures on it) messed up. Roger talked to the Mac people on the phone for a while, but nothing worked. They are sending a box to mail the computer back and will fix it for me. They said they can fix it without losing my pictures, thank goodness. So, we are on a blogging break, (at least a blog with pictures), and we'll be back really soon i hope.

It snowed this week!

It started snowing around 2:00 Tuesday afternoon and stopped snowing around 4:00 Wednesday afternoon.

We measured 7 inches in our yard. Our local news said we got 10 inches. (Can I just say there is no weatherman like Greg Fishel out here...I miss him) Either way...lots of snow.

Its really pretty and very powdery. It is also COLD here. Last night the weather said 13 degrees with a windchill making it feel like 3 degrees...needless to say we are staying inside for the most part.

Pumpkin Patch

We went to a local pumpkin patch today.

It is about to turn really cold here. The forecast calls for "light snow" Monday night and "substantial snow" Tuesday night and Wednesday. I'll let you know what "substantial snow" means as soon as I find out. But because it is about to get really cold, I wanted to make sure we got a visit to a pumpkin patch in before that happened. We could not have asked for better weather today.

The pumpkin patch had a ton of pumpkins and a little area to look at animals. I think Baker had a really good time. I know Roger and I did.

Every weekend we think it might be the last nice one. Everyone we see here tells us its never warm this late in the year. It snowed last weekend (the first time I've ever had a white birthday) but this weekend it was 75 degrees and sunny again so we wanted to take advantage of it.

Saturday morning we got up and rode about 30 minutes to Curt Gowdy State Park. We hiked around the lake and just enjoyed the pretty morning.

I'm sorry this post is late. We've had some blogging difficulties. Roger was sick, then I was sick, then the computer cord broke and we couldn't turn the computer on. But Roger is better, I'm better, (thankfully Baker hasn't gotten it) and the computer is better. So here is Baker at 9 months.

Stats:
(Baker's 9mo Dr's appt isn't until Oct 25, so here we these are using the at home measuring tools)
Weight: 23.5 lbs
Height: 30.5 in

Schedule
Wake up sometime between 6:00 and 7:00...sometimes 5:45. He was doing 7:00 pretty good early on but in the last month or 2 it doesn't matter what time he goes to bed he is probably going to get up around 6. I'm ready for 7 again (maybe even 8)...Not for me but he really is a happier person if he sleeps longer...I do think its getting better I am seeing progress.

Eat breakfast between 7 and 7:30 : Oatmeal with apple sauce and a 4oz bottle

Have another 4oz bottle for a snack around 9 or 9:30

Nap for about 2 hours falling asleep between 9 and 10

Lunch around 12 : a baby food veggie or fruit and a 4oz bottle. He still spits the veggies a lot of times but it is getting much better

Have another 4oz bottle for a snack around 2

An hour or hour and a half nap sometime between 2 and 3

Snack around 4 : yogurt

Dinner between 5:30 and 6:30 - finger foods of what we are having and a 4oz bottle

During the night he has started waking up crying a time or 2 but we don't' have to go in his room. He goes back to sleep and I think its due to teething.

Other things this month:
Eating: Likes finger foods WAY better than baby food. This is making him a lot more fun to take out to eat places. Oh, and this week Roger went to the store to get me some chicken noodle soup and decided to buy himself some spaghetti o's. He shared them with Baker and we learned that spaghetti o's are a good thing.

Moving - Crawling fast. Walking around all of the furniture, and walking down the hall if hes pushing something. Falling and bumping his head alot.

Teeth: 6 teeth and I can feel the 7th one coming through. And more whiney lately I think because of all these teeth coming through. I also think the teeth are why he wakes up crying for a few minutes during the night and is waking up earlier than he use to.

Words: dadada, bababa, and just babbeling loud all the time.

Favorites:
Yo Gabba Gabba: if this show comes on the T.V. he is GLUED. Its kind of amazing...and kind of disturbing.
Just in the last month he seems really into books. Ones with farm animals or flip up pictures are his favorite.
He loves drinking water out of our cups

Outside is still his favorite place to be and it fixes any sad moments. (I'm a little nervous about the winter days out here when we can't go outside.)
Hair: The hair is OUT OF CONTROL. I promise i brush it, but it ends up looking wild in just a matter of moments a lot of days.

The McMurrays Visit

Roger's parents came to visit a couple of weeks ago.

They flew in on Tuesday and left the following Tuesday.

This was Mrs. McMurray's first flight and we are happy to say she made it through the experience safe and sound.

During their visit there was lots of hanging out with Baker, some work around the house and a trip to the Rocky Mountain National Park

My Parents Came To Visit

I should have titled this post, My Parents Came To Work.

They drove across country to bring my car out so we could fly with Baker instead of having him in a car seat that long. Then once they got here, they unpacked boxes, hung pictures, hooked up washers and dryers, lots more odds and ends, got colds :(, and played with a baby some too.

Here are some pictures of a few of the rooms after their hard work.

(side note: Crystal called and asked me to do a video tour of the house, so as soon as I get a little more done around here I'll try to do that)

We also got out a little too. On Saturday we went to the local farmers market.

That was a lot of fun.

The big boots you see are all over town. I think I read there are 27 total in Cheyenne and you can go on a "Scavenger Hunt" to find them. So I"m sure we will do that soon.

We also liked how you bought veggies at one booth. You paid a flat price for a bag and then you could have anything you can fit in the bag. I liked that. I'm good at stuffing lots more than you would think you could in a bag.

I know that I still haven't blogged my parents trip out to Wyoming, but I've got to get all the pictures together and write for all 9 days that they were here.

However, today my Papa (that lives about 10 minutes from my parents house in Knightdale) called and said he was at the visitors gate at the base and needed me to come let him in.

If you know my Papa this is not surprising at all!!! He is the most spontaneous adventurous guy I know.

He was actually on road trip with his friend back from Nevada and was flying out of Denver tomorrow so he decided to drive up to Wyoming and see us.

First Visit to the ER

This past weekend Baker wasn't acting quite like his self. I chalked it up to the cold that we had. In fact he had ran a little bit of fever and had been to the doctor on Friday. So on Sunday when he was still not 100% I was
sure it was just that.

On Sunday, Sept 4, while I was changing his diaper I felt a hard knot. I called Roger up to look at it and he didn't like it. He spoke with the pediatrician here on base, and they both decided it was an abscess that had to be lanced open at the ER. So we headed to the emergency room. We got there about 6pm and it was packed. We waited our turn and when we were finally scene by a PA, he agreed it needed to be lanced. It was 8:45pm at this point and Baker was soooo tired. The PA cut it open while I held Baker's shoulder's down and Roger held his

legs. There was a lot of screaming, and what seemed like a lot of blood, and gunk. I hated every second of it. But had we not done this, it would have likely resulted in an infection that would have led us to being admitted to the hospital. So, we are thankful that we caught it early

WHO KNOWS...in the last month the kid has slept in a different bed in Concord, Knightdale, the beach and Wyoming, and 2 different time zones. I am looking forward to getting back on schedule.

Fun things this month:

Eating - Baker really enjoys all different kinds of fruits, pureed and cut up in little pieces. He is not a huge fan of veggies though. When he eats them pureed I often have to dip the spoon in a fruit to help mask the taste. He does much better with small cut up pieces so we are doing more and more of that.

Moving - Crawling and pulling up on everything. He is all over the place. He does a good job with it but it looks like he is about to bump his head all the time...and sometimes he does.

Teeth: Still the same 4 teeth. 2 top and 2 bottom. I think he may be teething though. He is constantly rubbing his tongue on his gum and looks like his has chewing tobacco in his mouth.

Words: He has been making a sound that sounds like "Hey" for several months but this past week he has started saying "dadadadadada". Its super cute.

We have a praise report!

WE HAVE BASE HOUSING!!!

This is a huge praise...and I fully believe a total God thing.

We've been told since the beginning to expect 12-18 months to get onto the base.

I really wanted to be on base.

There are not a lot of other possibilities in the town of Cheyenne for us.

It will be so close for Roger to get to his clinic.

We will be right there where he is and can meet him for lunch sometimes or he can come home for lunch and see us.

I feel like I will get connected to other air force wives and moms quicker if I'm in the middle of it all.

The officer housing at FE Warren are big pretty brick houses built in the early 1900s with tons of history, and seem like a really neat place to live

And, I just wanted to be settled soon after we got there.

I have been praying about this long and hard.

Sometime during the last year at church a verse I've heard many times struck me. The sermon was not about this verse and it was only mentioned while the pastor was reading a longer passage.

It was James 4:2 " You do not have because you do not ask"

Since that day I've been really praying through that verse and told Roger of course above all I wanted God's will whatever it was, and if that meant not living on base then that would be that. But I did not want to not live on base simply because I had not asked. So, I've asked a lot.

Well, Roger got to Wyoming yesterday and went to the housing office. Not only was there a house available for us, but there were 3 open and Roger got to choose the one he thought would be the best fit for us.

I'm so excited! and YAY GOD!!

Baker and I move out Aug 22 and will be a temporary house on base until Sept 15 when we get to move it.

Baker turned 7 months old on the 7th of the month.

With the way scheduling worked out his 6 month dr. appt was this past week so we have accurate 7 month stats.

Weight: 20lb 12oz - 83%

Height: 29 1/2 in - 99%

Schedule/Eating (these times are approximate and not exact from day to day):

7am wake up and eat oatmeal with applesauce

8am have a 6oz bottle

10am-12pm nap

12pm eat a fruit and a veggie

1pm have a 6oz bottle

2-4pm nap

4pm have a 6oz bottle

5:30pm or 6pm oatmeal and a fruit

sometimes a 20-30min cat nap after that

7:30pm bath

8:00pm 8oz bottle

between 8:30 and 9:00pm bedtime

Fun things this month:

Eating - Baker has started eating puffs and yogurt melts. We give him a few after each meal to practice picking up and eating. He has gotten much better over the month. He is good at taking it out of your hand and putting it into his mouth. He has not mastered picking it up off the tray and putting it into his mouth. I'm really glad we've introduced these. They have been a great tool. Only a few work nicely to tide over or entertain, and I think they are going to be a great tool when we go out to eat or are flying later in the month.

Curls - More and more curls every day...especially if we are outside in the humidity...who knows we may go back to straight hair in Wyoming with no humidity

Crawling - I would say one day last week what he was doing was actual crawling, but its the only time I've seen it. He has been getting on all 4s and rocking for a long time now, but not really moving forward unless he puts his face on the floor and kind of scoots, its not a crawl. He rolls over and over to get somewhere most of the time because he's quicker with it.

Pulling Up - If he is sitting beside the ottoman and something is on it he wants he will pull up by himself and stand there.
Teeth: 2 more. The top 2 teeth have cut through this month.

Temperament...he's a happy baby most of the time. He lets you know when he's hungry or sleepy but other than that he plays well, and is a happy smiley baby.

Roger is home from Alabama!!! I'm so glad. But I'm sure he is more happy about it.

From his stories it sounds like it was not the most fun place.

I flew down Wednesday night, and went to some information sessions all day Thursday and an award ceremony Thursday afternoon. Then the graduation parade on Friday.

We are still praying to get on base housing right away. We have been told all along that it could be a year...but we got some good news and are feeling hopeful that it could be very quickly. Baker Beach 2011

We just got home from the annual Baker Beach Week.

This was Baker's first time at the beach and I think he liked it. Being little, still napping quite a bit and not wanting him to burn he didn't get on the beach much. But we did take him out for a little while and got some pictures

Baker turned 6months old yesterday. WHOA that was fast!!

With the way scheduling worked out at the doctors office we won't go for his 6month visit until he is almost 7 months. So we did an unofficial weight using the bathroom scale and height using the sewing tape measure.

Weight: 19.5 ish pounds

Height: 28 ish inches

Schedule/Eating: 7am wake up and eat an 8oz bottle, 8am oatmeal and apple sauce, 10:30-12pm nap, 12pm 8oz bottle, 1pm fruit or vegetable, 2-3:30 or 4pm nap, 4pm eat an 8oz bottle, 5:30pm oatmeal, 7:30pm bath, 8pm eat an 8oz bottle, 9pm bed for the night.

Fun things this month:

Sitting by himself like its no big deal

Getting up on hands and knees like he's going to crawl but not getting anywhere yet

Curls; when we get in the humidity there are flippies all over his head and a ringlet over his ear.

I later found out that she lived in Knightdale and we had several connections but had never met. She came to our house and rode around to a few other locations and took pictures of us. Busy Fun Weekend

This weekend we went to Knightdale to have family pictures taken. I have been following a photographer for a while by her blog not knowing she was in Knightdale. When I realized she was there I decided to get her to take some pictures of Roger, Baker and I before he left for officer training. More on that to come when I get the pictures. I'm really excited to see them.

But since we were in Knightdale we packed the weekend full of fun things.

Friday night we got there about bed time.

Saturday we got up, played in the pool on the screened in porch, and relaxed.

Then we had our pictures taken. After pictures my mama and daddy kept Baker for the night, and Roger and I went to dinner at Second Empire and stayed at the Renaissance Hotel at North Hills. It was a fancy night and fun way to celebrate our anniversary.

Sunday morning we met up with my family at church then came home and helped mama get ready for a father's day cookout at our house. My Mema and Papa (my mom's parents) were there and all of their children and most of the grandchildren, and then all of my daddy's brother's and most of their families were there too. It was a big crowd and a ton of fun.

We spent the weekend in Hendersonville with Roger's family. We mostly did a lot of hanging out and spending time together since this is the last time we'll get to be there before we go to Wyoming.

5 Months

Today Baker is 5 months old

Stats:

We met Roger for lunch today and while we were at his office visiting we decided to get an official weight

Weight: 18 1/2 lbs

Unofficial Height: 28 in

Routine:

Eats: 4 bottles a day + rice cereal in the morning and a fruit or veggie at lunch

Food: So far I've been able to make everything we've tried except the rice cereal.

We are still introducing so we do the same food for a few days before we switch and we aren't mixing any yet. We've tried: Avocado, Squash, Apple, Banana and Sweet Potato. All have been good except the banana. He really liked the taste of the banana, but had a pitiful stomach ache for the rest of the day. I think we'll wait for a while to go back to that.

Sleep:

Morning Nap about 1 1/2 hrs

Afternoon Nap about 1 1/2 - 2 hrs. However he wakes up about 45 mins in most of the time and has a hard time sleeping the last hr unless I rock him

Evening Nap: sometimes 2 hrs, sometimes 45 mins

Still about 9:30pm - 8:00am

In the past month:

Baker now rolls both ways. This month he added from back to tummy. (see the video below of the first time he did it)

He can stay sitting by myself, IF he has a toy in front of him.

As you saw in this wordless wednesday he has 2 bottom teeth.

And as you saw here he is enjoying swimming and being outdoors.

He makes bubbles with his mouth A LOT!

Its been HOT around here. It was 97 yesterday and 95 today.

So today we decided to go "swimming." Baker put on his bathing suit and his sun shirt and got in a dishpan of water.

Weekend Recap

We had a jam packed weekend and I only ended up with 1 picture...

Roger has to have all of his uniform stuff before he leaves for training. Its a page full of stuff. We needed to go to an air force base for him to be fitted. Goldsboro was the most convenient so Friday after Roger got off we headed to Knightdale.

We got up Saturday morning and left the house. Baker hung out with his Nanny, Sweets and my Mema.

(side note: I was positive I was my Mema's favorite kid of all time....but do you know she didn't even stay for me to get home from all of our stuff Saturday....she was only there to see Baker...I can not believe I've been replaced!)

Anyway, we left Saturday morning and stopped to look at some potential furniture for the move, then went to Goldsboro. This was ridiculous!!! He finished getting fitted about 3 hrs after getting there, and the lady told us the other lady who usually does this will be there soon. We didn't have a good feeling about what he had so we waiting for the other lady, and we are glad we did. She redid everything. The first lady had given Roger the wrong sizes and had given him ladies stuff. So we got that all sorted out and left Goldsboro. We stopped in Smithfield at the outlets on the way back and got a few things.

We had planned to go home Sunday after church, but my Aunt June's sister passed away unexpectedly. So, Sunday we got up and went to church, then I went to the funeral with my family and Roger stayed back and played with Baker. (Who by the way got a really cool swing this weekend.) I'll try to get some pictures off of my mom's camera of that. When we got home from the funeral my parents kept Baker and let us go on a date. We went to see The Hangover 2. It was funny and we laughed a lot, but it was too vulgar for me.

Monday morning we loaded up and headed home about the time for Baker to take his nap. Here is how Baker slept on the way home.

Our church does baby dedication on Mother's Day each year.

It is a service for parents to commit to raising their children in a godly home and for the church to commit to supporting them in this endeavor.

One thing that stuck out for us was during a class for parents prior to participating in baby dedication. The class was to encourage us as we set out on our big endeavor as christian parents. The leader said our "babies are on loan from God and it is our responsibility to help them get ready for when its time to meet him face to face again." Talk about big responsibility.

1 Samuel 1:27-28 "I prayed for this child and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life he will be given over to the Lord."

Visiting Cheyenne

Last month we found out that Roger would be stationed in Cheyenne, WY. We know nothing about Wyoming so we thought we should take a trip and check it out. We left Baker with my parents and flew out for a long weekend. I had/have a ton of questions about what the next 3 1/2 years will be like and was hopeful that this trip would answer a bunch of them. Overall, I think we had a productive and successful trip.

It snowed 2 of the days/nights that we were there. That's right, snow the last week of April....I'm scared about what winter will be like. We ate breakfast one day at a local restaurant called the Egg and I. We went to a random church down town because we didn't want to miss Easter service, which was fun (celebrate Easter and get a feel for the people in the area) and we did a lot of driving wide open roads.

We also had dinner with the Dr. that Roger is replacing and his wife. Go figure, they are leaving and moving to Raleigh. Small World! That was probably the best thing we did all week. I feel like we got a real life feel for what we can expect. I'm kind of bummed they are leaving, I think we would have been good friends.

There are still tons of questions like when will Roger have to report and how long will it take to get a house on base. The housing people said who knows anywhere from right away to 18 months. I'm not too worried about that I came home and got my Mema praying on that one. But, I really really wish there weren't so many things still up in the air so I could get a better plan.

But for now we finish up the next few months of life here and get ready to start our next chapter.

Out To Eat

I dont' really know why its taken us so long to take Baker out to eat. Part of it I guess is that we don't really go out to eat that much. Then early on, his fussiest time was right around when you would go out to eat for dinner. Then I would get worried it wouldn't work out and we'd bother people. But today I decided enough of all of the excuses lets do this. So...

ECU Helmet

When my brother was little my Uncle Craig gave him an ECU helmet in hopes of persuading his future. Matt grew up and went to NCSU and the ECU helmet doesn't match the decor at his house. But since Roger has 3 ECU degrees and I have 1, we though the helmet would match our decor and Baker might really like it. So Baker now has the helmet from Uncle Craig.

NCVAN 5K

This weekend my mama's office hosted their first annual NCVAN Memorial 5K for Crime Victims. Roger and I went up. I went to help out and Roger ran it. Roger runs several days a week but he hasn't run in a 5K other than one he did in college. The event was a success for NCVAN and I think it will continue to grow each each and Roger did great coming in 4th overall.

3 Months

I still really like bath time.

I really really like the other kid at my house. He's in every mirror and I think he is super cute

I go 11 hours between bottles at night.

Weight: I visited daddy at his office today, to meet all of the people that he works with. While I was there they decided to weigh me. With my clothes and my diaper on I was 16.5 lbs

Mailbox Fun

I love going to the mailbox and finding something other than a bill anytime...but today was even more fun...we got our first letter from Rwanda.

My frist teaching job after moving to concord, was on a 2 man team. I taught math and science and Emily taught Language Arts and Social Studies. We had so much fun that year. Since we were the only 2 man team in the 6th grade we got to do some really great things that we couldn't have done with a bigger team. My favorite was taking our whole team (50 kids) camping over night. To say I was worried about it and questioned if this was wise, would be an under statement. But not Emily, she is adventurous and fun and willing to go all out to give a kid an experience that will hopefully impact them. And, she was right on that trip...no one got hurt, everyone had fun, we got to know our kids on a deeper level, and got to teach them what a smore was...watching a kid eat their first smore is awesome!

Well Emily's adventurous, fun personality and her passion to share Jesus across the world has led her to teach 4th grade in Rwanda. You can follow her adventures here. I miss seeing her but am so excited about what she is doing.

So all of that to say, it was super fun to go to the mailbox today and have a handmade card from Rwanda

Roger had a conference in Atlanta so Baker and I headed to Knightdale for a few days. Plus it was my Mama's birthday.

We did a lot of things (including hanging out with Nanny and Sweets, Uncle Matt and Aunt Sara, Emily, LB and Junebug, taking walks, swinging on the screened in porch, meeting a Avery, and going to chuch) but I didn't take a lot of pictures.

Making Money

Remember those textbooks the university book store wouldn't buy back when the course was over because there was a new edition? Man, that was always disappointing.

My mama has been asking me to go through my old books upstairs for some time now and let

her know what I wanted to keep. I had time this weekend while I was home. I didn't need any of them. You can google everything these days. But before she got rid of them I told her I wanted to see if I could get anything for them with Amazon's Textbook Buy Back program.

You type in the ISBN number or title for a text book and the value they will pay you for the

book pops up. Most of mine weren't on there. But I had several that were and got $38.16 in buy backs. ($38 for something I didn't want anyway...LOVE IT) Amazon even gives you a shipping label so its free. You just put it in a box, tape the shipping label on and take it to the post office. As soon as they get it they credit your Amazon account with the money. We did it a few months ago with Roger's old books too and got just over $55 dollars. WOOWHOO!!

If you have textbooks that you don't want and are taking up space give it a try.

This weekend we went to Hendersonville for everyone to meet Baker.

Roger's cousin, John's, family hosted a party and invited everyone over to meet the baby.

Baker did great. He usually eats and about an hour later its nap time, so I didn't know what we'd get at this event; but he really turned on the smiles and was personable for everyone. He did great!

We had a really good time and appreciate all the hard work that was put into such a nice weekend.

Big News

As many of you know Roger joined the Air Force during his first year of residency. Since then we have known when residency was over we would be moving to an Air Force base SOMEWHERE. The first 2 years of residency not knowing where was ok, but this year we've been so eager to find out.

Here we are the day he was sworn in

Earlier this year they had us turn in a list of 20 places we would like to go. We didn't have but about 45 to choose from so we had to put down almost half. We tried to plan our trips last year so we could hit a few bases and check them out. We went skiing in Utah, and saw that base while we were there and we did a road trip from Prince Edward Island to Boston and saw the base near Boston on that trip. So out of the 20 we put on our list we had seen those 2. We were familiar with the towns but not the bases in Goldsboro, Charleston and Columbia SC, but other than that it has been blind faith. Well thats redundant isn't it...its not faith if it isn't blind faith right. So we prayed and turned in a list of 20 places and prayed some more. After turning in our list we got a message that basically said thank you for turning in your list, we will take it in to consideration, but know that the needs of the Air Force come first. Makes you wonder why you turn in a list anyway. So we've continued praying that we will end up right where we are suppose to be, and that God is preparing not only us; but the place we are going, and the relationships we will be forming there too.

Well the waiting is OVER. Roger got his assignment today.

I have mixed emotions about it. I think it will be a fun adventure...but the thought of not being close to my mama and daddy makes me sad and nervous.

We do feel fortunate though. Several people placed at the same time of us did not get a base that was on their list at all, some even were sent to South Korea....that makes Cheyenne seem a lot closer to my family.

Anyway, the wait is over, we know where we are going. I'm so glad about that. Now I can start doing a lot of research about a town I know nothing about.

So feel free to pray for us as we get ready to adjust to a whole new adventure.

At 2 months (3/7/11)

I still love to play in my play gym, I've even got a best friend at the gym

I am also really enjoying bath time

And I like to look at myself in the mirror

(the one on my swing is my favorite)

I eat 5 5oz and 1 6oz bottles a day

and I have one long sleep that is 7 or 8 hours at night

The Dr said

My Weight is: 13 lbs 15 oz - 90th percentile

My Length is: 24.75 inches - 98th percentile

and i got 3 shots today...Yikes!!!!...and to think i smiled at that lady when she came in.

I miss my students! I miss them a lot!!!

One thing I miss is the stories I would come home with daily, and would sometimes blog. From getting to share in their lives like this to funny things like this and this and this and this classic (sorry got carried away there looking back on the funny moments)

Yesterday my former co-teacher Becky came over to visit Baker and me and shared whats been going on with our kids.

This was the best of the day.

A student (we'll call her Rebecca) was outside waiting for her ride to pick her up after school last week. The assistant principal said something to her to make her mad. On the way to her car she called the assistant principal a Fat M***** F*****. Another teacher over heard this and wrote her up (side note: I HATE writing these kind of things up because they make you write down the exact words the student said...so awkward when you don't use that kind of language). In the office the next day the principal said to her; Rebecca did you say that Mrs O is a Fat M***** F*****....and here's the kicker....Rebecca said " I didn't call her FAT."

First Trip To Knightdale

Roger had a crazy work week last week with 2 calls and 2 late nights, so Baker and I headed to Knightdale.

Because I wasn't allowed to travel for a while before the baby came, it had been 12 weeks since I had been home. That is way too long!

Also, my Mema came over one day to baby sit. She spent the day spoiling Baker while my mama and I went to the mall. I really appreciated that...and I have a feeling she LOVED having the baby to herself.

We had a lot of fun. And, I was really sad to leave...although I think my parents may have been sadder to see Baker go.

Crazy Kids

My daddy, mama and I were sitting around deciding on what we were going to have for dinner. We had almost decided on hamburgers on the grill when a commercial that had pancakes on it came on the T.V. My daddy said..."oh, that would be good." Mama said we could do that. She said we may not have pancake mix so we may have to make them from scratch. Daddy said that was crazy, we could just have the hamburgers. Then we decided that that's just the kind of crazy kids we are. So an impromptu pancake supper is what we had.

And because growing up we always had frozen pancakes or used pancake mix, I think this may be the first made from scratch pancakes I've ever had. They were easy, fun and super yummy.

At 1 month (2/7/11)

according to the weigh in on the bathroom scale I am about 11 1/2 lbs

I love to play in my play gym

and I'm a big fan of messing up my clothes right after i'm all clean from a bath

oh and look how good I am at controlling my head.

Being a parent is scary

We had our first big being a parent is scary moment when Baker was 10 days old. I was so glad my mama was here with me.

I noticed a little scrape on Baker's toe Monday morning, and showed it to Roger. Nothing to worry about, just "aww, look he's got a booboo" kind of moment.

My mama got to town Monday around lunch time to help out since Roger was going back to work. At the next diaper change, I showed her Baker's booboo too.

That evening Roger was working at Urgent Care and my mama and I gave Baker a bath. We noticed his toe looked like it had been burned. It had not looked like that earlier. It was swollen and red, and didn't look like the other big toe at all.

I called Roger and talked to him about it, then took a picture on my phone and sent it to him to look at (sometimes technology is awesome).

I didn't want to be the mom who called the pediatrician after hours line week 1 over nothing, but after encouraging from my mama and then Roger seeing the picture and saying he thought I should call too, I did.

The after hours nurse was so sweet. She said she would call the dr. on call, who happened to be our pediatrician, and then she'd call me back.

A few minutes later, Roger called, the Dr. had called him at work and wanted us to come meet him at the office to let him see the toe.

We did. The doctor said it probably started as a little nick or and ingrown toe nail that he could have gotten anywhere from the hospital to sometime at home, who knows, but that now it was infected. He was very nice and said we had done the right thing by coming in and letting him see it. He called in an antibiotic and had us pick it up from a 24hr pharmacy and start it that evening. We were to keep doing that 3 times a day for 10 days and keep an eye on Baker and make sure everything keeps looking ok.

Thank the Lord, we are done with the meds, and his little is as cute as ever!
